An incredible opportunity to see one of Annea Lockwood’s Piano Transplants

Piano Garden (1969-70 – Ingatestone, Essex)

Dig a sloping trench and slip an upright piano in sideways so that it is half interred.

A small grand piano may be set down amongst bushes etc.

Plant fast growing trees and creepers around the pianos.

Do not protect against weather and leave the pianos there forever.

We are delighted to announce that the morning after her concert in Firth Hall, Xenia will be performing the piece ‘Piano Garden’, where a Piano will be buried and left to be taken over by nature.

This piece is part of Annea Lockwood’s famous ‘Piano Transplants’, a set of fluxus inspired scores that also includes the infamous ‘Piano Burning’. Half buried and left to the elements, this piece explores the longterm interaction and impact of nature on an instrument.  The piano burial will take place at Woodseats Community Garden, Camping Lane, Sheffield S8 0GB and will include a short performance from Xenia.

No ticket required, please arrive for 11am.
