An Orchestral exploration of Carnatic Music

Manchester Camerata, with their Artistic Partner Rushil Ranjan, presents माया (Māyā) .

माया (Māyā) is a brand new composition by Rushil Ranjan, commissioned by Manchester Camerata, that fuses the sound of a Western Classical Orchestra with Carnatic Song. Carnatic music is widely considered to be the most ancient and pure form of music from the Indian subcontinent. With roots that lie in deeply spiritual and Vedic traditions it incorporates mathematical, rhythmic complexity and raga to beautifully illustrate tales from Hindu mythology.

Rushil Ranjan is a multi-disciplinary artist. His work across contemporary, Sufi and classical music has earned him a reputation as one of the most distinctive and extraordinary musical voices around today. Manchester Camerata are the UK’s most relentlessly pioneering orchestra and regular guests of our series.
