Scintillating crossover collaboration between three virtuoso’s at their respective instruments: guitar, tabla and sarod.
Prattyush Banerjee, a master musician, is at once a virtuoso of the modern sarod, a skilled composer, and someone who has evolved the design of his instrument into the twenty-first century. He has contributed scores for Bollywood movies (Piku, Madras Café), collaborated with countless other musicians, and recently invented an electrified version of the sarod, the jyotidhwani. Born in Kolkata, the young Prattyush was immersed in music from an early age, with his father being a renowned record collector. He began studying the sarod aged eight.
Giuliano Modarelli is a virtuosic guitarist, composer, producer, and educator from Italy. His music transcends genres, embracing cultural exchange and collaboration. He has worked alongside such names as Shankar Mahadevan, Bill Laurance, Talvin Singh and Nitin Sawhney. Giuliano is the co-founder of Kefaya, an award-winning collective that (together with Hazara singer Elaha Soroor) fuses Afghan folk traditions with jazz, electronic music, and psychedelic rock. Here he reunites with his teacher and mentor in Hindustani music, Prattyush.
Born in the UK, Gurdain Rayatt is one of the leading tabla players and teachers in UK and Europe performing internationally with renowned Indian Classical musicians as well as world/crossover and fusion projects spanning several genres. He has accompanied legends of the Indian Classical music world including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Kushal Das, Rakesh Chaurasia, Purbayan Chatterjee, Niladri Kumar, Anoushka Shankar and many more. Gurdain has been teaching for over 10 years, bringing the joy of tabla to his students.
Giuliano will perform 20 minutes as a tribute to his teacher, before introducing Prattyush onstage, with Gurdain accompanying throughout. This promises to be an unmissable evening of music from three adventurous performers, operating at the height of their musicianship.
