Mohamed Errebbaa is a Moroccan Gnawa master musician, a highly regarded and unique practitioner of this tradition active in the UK.

Mohamed’s group of jazz, soul & Afro-funk musicians present Gnawa music in a contemporary international context. A night of global music with hypnotic, bass-heavy dance grooves, Afro-jazz brass & soulful vocals drawing on Gnawa’s deep trance power, an ancient tradition of religious observation through ritual poetry, dance & rhythmic music.

‘these musicians took the audience on a trip in which time stopped, the insistent rhythms and riffing strings filling the venue with an energy that was thrilling’  – Mark Kidel

This event will be our latest in our long collaboration with Talking Gigs, where a first half of musically illustrated interview is followed by a full performance. This engaging format provides the chance for visiting artists to tell their story about their music and practice.

Find out more about Talking Gigs on their website.

This event will support the hard work of ASSIST in Sheffield with a raffle in the interval.
