Susan Tomes explores the nocturne and the rich cultural history of the music of twilight and sleep. This fascinating classical genre has inspired musicians including Chopin and Richter and Field, as well as artists and writers. Susan will play some short pieces of night music as part of the event.
Susan is an award-winning pianist and writer, renowned as a soloist and chamber musician. Her books include The Piano and Women and the Piano.
Robert Philip is a broadcaster and author of A Little History of Music.
